Our team has been carrying out research in the field of medical geography for nearly 15 years. Our research focuses on vector-borne and zoonotic diseases, including tick-borne diseases, in relation to the environment, applying classical tools of geography such as remote sensing, spatial analysis, and empirical-statistical modelling as well as interdisciplinary approaches and epidemiological modelling. Besides methodological and technical expertise in these domains, communicating and working with scientists of various backgrounds is a cornerstone of our experience, absolutely necessary in a research context that addresses biological, medical, epidemiological and geographical issues. We have been involved in international research all along. Sophie Vanwambeke has been involved as researcher and principal investigators in FP5 and FP7 projects that involved numerous partners from across Europe and carried research out in European and tropical regions. She has carried out field work extensively in Thailand and Benin and various countries in Europe. She was a visiting scholar in University of Oxford, a Fulbright visiting researcher at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and recently a year-long visitor at Columbia University in New York.
